Bike Cape Breton

glencoe backroads

Big Belle Farm is located where the paved road ends and the gravel road begins that takes you into a vast area that people often refer to as “Glencoe”. If you want to explore roads less travelled, you can find plenty of roads in Glencoe. A “trip to Glencoe” might mean visiting any of these smaller communities:

Glencoe Mills
MacLeod Settlement
Upper Glencoe
Upper Southwest Mabou
Dunakin
Rosedale
Mull River
Hillsdale
River Centre
Miramichi

You can get to many different parts of Cape Breton by taking a back road through Glencoe. Big Belle Farm is well positioned as an entry point into the Glencoe network of gravel roads. One destination we recommend is a visit to the Glencoe Church and Glencoe Hall located next to each other. If there is a square dance at the hall you might want to bike to the dance if you have headlamps. You might want to look around the Glencoe Church and Cemetry. This location was a central point of convergence for parishoners from smaller communities, so you can branch off from here to other Glencoe destinations. If you want a longer ride, you might make a loop over to Glencoe Station Hall and then to Route 19 where you can return to Big Belle Farm via the Coastal Trail and then the Southwest Ridge Road. This is only one of many options if you want to take some roads less travelled.
